Time flies when you’re having fun!
And that is certainly the case in my marriage. I cannot believe that we have already been married 2 months. On one hand, it feels like just yesterday that I walked down that aisle, but on the other, I feel as though Will and I have been married forever. People tell us that the first year of marriage is the hardest, and although there are still some arguments and disagreements here and there, I can say that the first two months have been spectacular.
Every night before we go to sleep, I always ask Will what his goals are for the next day, week, month, etc. and although he constantly tells me to find a better time to ask him about this, I think it’s always important to be sharing goals, hopes and wishes with each other. Since you already know my goals for the next year, I thought I would share the three things I have learned in the past two months.
1. Calling someone your husband is a pretty awesome feeling
Maybe this will get old one day when we’ve been married for 30 years, but for now, I am so proud when I get to introduce Will as my husband. Every time I do, it’s like I am telling them, “Hey, look at this super awesome guy! He loves me more than anyone else and we are going to be best friends forever!” It’s also a whole lot better than calling him my fiance!
2. A successful marriage is something that takes work
Not much changes when you get married, especially if you’ve lived together beforehand. The house still gets messy, the dog still needs to be fed, and the dishes still need to be done. With the days seeming to get busier every week, it means we need to make more intentional time for each other, even if it means just having a tea date together at home after a long day or checking out a craft show on the weekend.
3. Changing your last name is a pain in the butt
I love the thought of having the same last nname as Will and the significance of us now becoming our own family unit, but the actual process of changing my name is a huge pain to do. It’s been on my goal list for the past few weeks, but unfortunately it has still not been completed. Every time I think I have changed it I realize there’s another bank I need to call or an account I need to change. This has been the least enjoyable part of marriage thus far, but I am confident one day it will finally happen!
Yup, looks like we’re on the right track to a very successful marriage!
